What Is Robotic Surgery?
At Sierra Pacific Surgical, our general surgeons and team prioritize the health and safety of our patients by offering minimally invasive surgical care. Performed with the state-of-the-art da Vinci® surgical system and Firefly fluorescence imaging, robotic surgery is an approach we use to carry out a range of laparoscopic abdominal surgical procedures. It provides our surgeons the ability to perform surgeries with enhanced precision and treatment outcomes by controlling a computer-guided robotic device. Our skilled Sacramento, CA surgeons may utilize robotic surgery as an alternative to open surgery for simple and complex hernia repair (including abdominal wall reconstructions), colon surgeries, gallbladder surgery, and anti-reflux (GERD) surgery. For more on robot-assisted laparoscopic surgery, please schedule a consultation at our Roseville or Folsom, CA practice locations.

How Does Robotic Surgery Work?
Our general surgeons are extensively trained and experienced in the da Vinci robotic surgical system. Once seated at the system's console, our surgeons will control the device's arms to create small, precise incisions in the treatment area. A camera device will be inserted through the incisions, providing our surgeons with a real-time, highly magnified view of the internal structures. Advanced imaging capabilities may also be implemented with Firefly technology, which injects a fluorescent dye into the tissues to provide greater visualization of anatomical structures. Operated within the da Vinci console, miniature instruments are then computer-guided at the skilled hands of our surgeons and utilized to complete the procedure. With the da Vinci system, our surgeons can perform minimally invasive surgical procedures with enhanced access to hard-to-reach areas and greater treatment dexterity. Laparoscopic robotic surgery procedures are performed at an accredited surgical facility within the Greater Sacramento, CA area.
Robotic Surgery FAQ
Is robotic surgery safe?
Any type of surgery carries some level of risk, but when performed by experienced surgeons like the team at Sierra Pacific Surgical, robotic surgery is very safe and effective. Our surgeons use the latest cutting-edge robotic surgery devices, the da Vinci surgical system with Firefly fluorescence imaging, which allows greater precision, enhanced magnification, and increased patient safety.
Is robotic surgery painful?
Robotic surgery allows the surgeon to make smaller incisions to do their work, especially for hard-to-reach parts of the body – referred to as minimally invasive. This means more accuracy and efficiency, less blood loss, less pain, less scarring, and a quicker recovery time for the patient. Compared to traditional surgery, the pain and discomfort associated with robotic surgery are minimal.
What are the types of robotic surgery?
Robotic surgery has been applied to everything from cancer and brain surgery to hernia repair and gallbladder removal. At Sierra Pacific Surgery, our robotic surgery procedures include:
- Laparoscopic surgery
- Hernia repair
- Gallbladder surgery
- Anti-reflux (GERD) surgery
- Colon surgery
