The team performs your acid reflux surgery at an accredited surgical center. During surgery, they wrap the top portion of your stomach (fundus) around the bottom section of your esophagus, strengthening the muscle band (sphincter) that connects the esophagus to the stomach, called the lower esophageal sphincter (LES). This procedure is called fundoplication.
They use minimally invasive robotic surgery to perform acid reflux surgery, reducing incision size and improving accuracy. You may spend several days at the hospital following surgery and then 2-8 weeks of recovery at home.
The LINX device is a small, flexible band of titanium beads with a magnetic core. The surgeons place the LINX device around the lower part of the esophagus to support function of the LES, preventing the acid reflux, but not your ability to swallow, belch, or vomit.
Placement of the LINX device takes 1-2 hours, but it’s done at a hospital using general anesthesia.
