What Is Thyroid Surgery?
The thyroid is a butterfly-shaped gland in the front of the neck that secretes hormones that influence growth and development, metabolic function, and body temperature. Several conditions may call for surgery of the thyroid, such as goiter, which is an enlarged thyroid, tumors or nodules on the thyroid, and thyroid cancer. Sierra Pacific Surgical specializes in the removal of benign or malignant nodules and tumors on the thyroid, full and partial thyroidectomy, and parathyroid surgery. To book a consultation for thyroid surgery with one of our experienced general surgeons, please contact Sierra Pacific Surgical in Roseville or Folsom, CA.

Types of Thyroid Surgery
Our skilled general surgeons provide the following types of thyroid surgeries at accredited surgical centers throughout the Sacramento, CA area:
- Full or partial thyroidectomy: The partial or full removal of the thyroid gland may be needed to treat thyroid cancer, to remove benign yet concerning thyroid nodules or tumors, or to address hyperthyroidism (when other treatment options have not been effective).
- Treatment for goiter: When goiter prevents normal function (such as proper breathing and swallowing), then surgery to reduce the size of the thyroid or remove the thyroid entirely may be necessary.
- Parathyroid surgery: The removal of the parathyroid glands (located near the thyroid) is used as a treatment for hyperparathyroidism. Hyperparathyroidism is a condition in which the parathyroid produces too much parathyroid hormone, which causes the blood's calcium levels to rise.
What Can I Expect With Thyroid Surgery?
Prior to surgery, a pre-operative consultation will be scheduled at one of our practice locations to prepare for the upcoming procedure. At Sierra Pacific Surgical, our skilled team will take the most minimally invasive approach possible to performing thyroid surgery. These procedures may be conducted on an outpatient basis or may require a short hospital stay, depending on the type of surgery required. Once thyroid surgery is complete, our team will provide post-surgical aftercare instructions to follow during the recovery period.
